Gypsy Girl

The poncho is great as it showcases so much in such a casual way. A hippy-esque poncho is just enough to emphasize a unique bohemian style, whilst maintaining an eye-catching vibe, as one can wears it ever so comfortably. Ponchos are terrific final touch items that can set the tone for your entire look from tip to toe. They are ideal to put on when faced with one of those nothing to wear days – they are easy to throw on, wear and you never need worry about what else to combine it with, it’s usually a flamboyant statement on its own.

Through the Looking Glass

Hems go south in this seasons biggest skirt mania. Maxi skirts are one of the most versatile items of clothing and can be dolled-up and dressed down to flatter every silhouette and occasion. Graceful and flowy maxi dresses have been dominating for a few seasons now so it was predestined that the maxi skirt would follow. My admiration of the long skirt has been re-ignited and there are truly fanciful floor-grazing styles available everywhere in the high street. I especially love the bohemian, hippie-esque vibe of the maxi. There are numerous means to translate this movement to make it work for you. You can modernize it and give it an edge with a cute tee or vest; you can take it the boho-route and team with a buoyant blouse; you can keep it basic with a minimal tank or give it a fashion-forward kick with an embellished style.

Wild Horses

“A dreamer is one who can only find his way by moonlight, and his punishment is that he sees the dawn before the rest of the world.”

I hope everyone can enjoy some well deserved warmth as Spring is well and truly on its way...hooray. These images are all inspired by mother nature, longer, greener, warmer, yellow sun days, vivid-vibrant daffodils and the luminous beauty outside... picnics, books and an endless blue skyline...

The lovely Victoria from Less Hungry Eyes will receive the feathered headband from my give-away, her blog is breathtakingly beautiful and simply blew me away. This dreamy image below is taken from her blog;  definitely one to watch.

Rouge Heart

"Suzanne takes your hand
And she leads you to the river
She is wearing rags and feathers
From Salvation Army counters
And the sun pours down like honey
On our lady of the harbour
And she shows you where to look
Among the garbage and the flowers"

This is my beautiful friend Lee and we did a nomadic inspired photo shoot on the sandy dunes near the beach. The images are influenced by gypsies; the travelling trend is all about looking like you just threw on some clothing without thinking about it. Western fashion is completely enthused around the Gypsy style and this is perhaps because Gypsies have been able to elude the lifestyles that we have. The Gypsy life is a travelling existence moving from one place to the next, finding what is essential, putting together an appearance, fashion is not significant to them, and somehow that makes it work - to Gypsies it is function over frivolity.

Usually Indian, African and Asian prints are combined with Western pieces that allow you to mix-and-match clothing to create your own individual look. It's comfortable, down-to-earth and feminine so you'll need to put away those skin-tight clothes and become a free minded, clash prints and not think about it too much. The fashion world is usually a world in which the dreamy ideal is celebrated, rather than anything more factual.

DIY feather headpiece

This is such a simple DIY for  feathered headpiece

1. You will need a beaded headband, I found mine for 99 pence from Ebay here, feathers, I found that duck/ goose feathers work better as they are not so fluffy and more sturdy. I used two packs with twelve lilac feathers and smaller white feathers, also from Ebay found here and here.

2. Find the centre of your headband and stick the feathers through the beads, I used bigger feathers first and made sure the feathers folded outwards so they sit better once they are on your head (shown in image nr 2). I used a lilac feather for every second bead and later filled up all the remaining beads with the white smaller feathers.

If there is space you can stick more then one feather in per bead . I did not need to glue my feathers as the fit is quite snug and the feathers wont fall out. You can see me wearing the headpiece here.

Finally you have a Red Indian inspired headpiece modelled by the lovely (and reluctant) Lilly.
Give away:  Because everyone has been so amazing and always leave such inspiring comments I will give away a similar headband to a Wunderlust reader, simply leave a comment on this post and I will select someone by this weekend.

Girls Will Be Boys

One can argue that the female version of a tux never went out of style in the first place.
The tuxedo has been a style staple for women since Marlene Dietrich first worked the look in the Thirties, cemented as a fashion classic in 1966 by Yves Saint Laurent's iconic Le Smoking suit. Now, it appears to be firmly back on trend, as every fashionista worth her six-inch stilettos has been stepping out in a black blazer, white shirt and bow-tie combination. This look is razor-sharp and original it can earn one vital fashion points. A tux-attire oozes confidence that is very different from what feminine dresses offer. A loosely-knotted tie can keep the look sexy, a cropped ankle and high heels can save it from looking too masculine. For me, nothing beats YSL's original Le Smoking, which has been worn by everybody from Diane Keaton to Catherine Deneuve. It is still a timeless classic 44 years on, and given the tuxedo revival, it's at the top of my wardrobe wish list.

Feathers and Gold

Fragile as feathers

At last, spring is in sight and I can't wait to give my wardrobe a new lease of life. Colours are everywhere and styles range from wild prints and fringing to preppy tie-and-blouse combinations, as well as brilliant whites and crochet-chic. In the company of bursting bright colours, dreamy nudes and plenty of prints, get set to try out diverse looks this season. One should mix and match; whether you prefer pretty-and-prim or festival-chic, be sure to pair with cute accessories, block heels, a smudge of lipstick and a pair of oversized sunnies. Spring here I come…plus how cute is my bambino little Lilly...?
