We Build Our Castles In The Sky

I feel very fortunate to live in the countryside where we have the freedom of all the marvelous rural fields, this is one of our favourite little spots ...and I am especially fond of that tall sad old tree
I borrowed my sister’s wide-angle lens for these images and really like the result...
Plus doesn't Matteo look dapper?
Hoping this Monday is not a particularly blue Monday for everyone xxx

Horse and I

"Wouldn't life be perfect if sweatpants were sexy, Mondays were fun, junk food didn't make you fat, girls didn't cause so much drama, guys weren't so confusing  and goodbyes only meant till tomorrow..."

I am wearing my sisters vintage dress that  I think should be mine...These horses spontaneously crashed our picnic. As you can probably tell, I was a little scared of them, they are so incredibly powerful. Thank you for all the gorgeous comments, they are - after all - a main reason blogs flourish. Without the constant inspiration from fellow bloggers, blogging would be pretty mundane xxx

Velvet Cream

I think I will be wearing my flower crown all summer ...
These are the cutest velvet shorts (short shorts!) and I have no idea where and how I will ever wear them...perhaps they fit into the underwear as outer wear category...

Who’d have thought it – along with flat shoes and hair bands, velvet is firmly back on tend. Velvet had been yo-yoing “in” and “out” of fashion more times then I can remember, but there is something about the opulence and lavishness of this beautiful fabric that I adore.  To me velvet is cremy and indulging…it needs to come out on special occasions.  Crushed or uncrushed, it should be worn with elegance and sophistication, sweep up your hair and slick on some red lipstick and you’ll be there.Don’t wear it from top to toe – one key item or a touch here and there is best.Keep your jewelery simple and let the fabric do the talking.

You should think classic, pale, English- rose at all times.

I’m off to Maker Faire (2011 Edition)!

It’s that time of the year again! Some folks call in summer – I call it Maker Faire. So next week, I’m packing up a few of my favorite new projects, and hopefully show off something interesting at my table out in San Mateo.

One thing I’m really excited about is the stuff I’ve been hacking around with in Android. I always felt like Android was one of those hardcore engineering things, but I’ve been able to get it to work with the BeagleBoard and BeagleTouch to do some pretty fun stuff.

Last week, Will, and I were sitting in the lab playing around with the old RC car and some of Playstation cameras we had from a project last year. Will always thought it would be cool if we could control the car without having to follow it around, so we gave it a whirl. Loading up the car with a couple hacked PlayStation 3 cameras, Will was able to drive the car around the house without leaving the room.

By hooking up the PS3 camera to the car, Will and I were able to bring up the camera to the BeagleTouch and see exactly what the RC car was seeing. I’ve always wondered what it would be like to be driven around on a little RC car (think Honey I Shrunk The Kids :) and this is just about the closest I’ll get.  Using the same hack, I hooked up four PS3 cameras to the around my desk to make a “BeagleBoard Security System”, complete with split-screens and everything. It made me feel like a security guard/command-center operator of sorts, and plus, no one could sneak up on me.

Not to say I’ve forgotten all about the Arduino - I’ve also been playing around with a low power, portable, WiFi/GPS/Arduino rig with the GeoShield, which I’m going to test out at Maker Faire Exhibition Hall when I get there.

I had some spare time on my hands the past couple weekends, and some cooler gear to play with, so there’s plenty more projects I’ll have to show off. I’ll be there the whole time, and would love to say hi to some fellow West Coast hackers…see you there!

The best feelings in the world

"Sleeping late, putting on sweatpants after wearing jeans all day, dipping biscuits in tea, hugs lasting more than a minute, being liked/loved back, the first swim of summer, sending postcards from far away, laughing till your stomach hurts, pictures from you when you were little, when he texts you first, living up to someone’s expectations, eating seedless grapes, winning an argument, listening to your favourite song, receiving hand-written letters, realising it is Friday, packing for your holiday, perfectly peeling off the price sticker, getting an unexpected gift, making someone proud,  falling asleep to rain, finishing an essay,  being told your beautiful, finding the prefect jeans, when people laugh at your jokes,  finding out the name of the song stuck in your head, making new friends, being told by someone they never want to loose you,  knowing you will be ok....”

I am wearing Primark (shoes, blouse, belt and skirt) Lee is wearing Topshop dress, Aldo shoes, River Island socks, and handmade headpieces by me xxx

DIY Floral Crown

I adore flowers and flower crowns are the best way to salute the summer, perfect for a special occasion, festivals or weddings. Here is a few very easy steps to make your own floral crown:

What you will need:
An assortment of  fabric flowers, I bought a few different bunches and simply cut the wire stems. Some thin wire, some green garden wire, pliers, measuring tape and floral tape.

Create a circle that fits comfortably around your head and secure it with a small piece of wire. I tripled the amount of wire to make the crown extra sturdy.

Cut your first flower and place it in the desired direction on the crown. By using a small piece of thin wire, wrap the flower tightly and secure with pliers so there are no sharp pieces of wire sticking out that might hurt you. Do this with more flowers, till you start to build a full crown of pretty flowers.

Wrap the exposed wires together with the floral tape from one end to the other and viola you have a pretty floral crown.

Lilly Bloom

I am savoring and every beautiful second of spring...

Sand, buff, cream, nude, pallid, beige—call it whatever you want, but  I’ve seen boatloads of garments in barely there sheer neutrals on the spring runways and high street. If you are an English rose and think wearing neutral shades head to toe will wash you out, wear another colour up top. My cupboard is full of feminine lace and if I am not adorning myself in black…I seem to be draping myself in light floaty laces. This skirt is an eBay find and a firm favourite…I feel like a slightly more grown up ballerina.
